The brain is a very complex organ. It is responsible for our daily functioning - it controls various vital processes such as breathing and heart function. It is also involved in memory formation. However, every one of us occasionally forgets something. It is the brain's natural defense mechanism against overwork. A healthy person will remember later because he or she has a good memory, but a person with Alzheimer's disease will not remember at all. Alzheimer's has been referred to in recent years as type 3 diabetes. That is why in our laboratory we are testing specially modified peptides that not only regulate food intake, but also potentially have a protective effect on nerve cells - neurons.
